A Detailed Painting Project in Wheelers Hill
We recently completed the interior and exterior painting for this impressive double-storey home in Wheelers Hill, Melbourne.
The property features decorative wall panelling, detailed architraves, feature ceilings and plenty of architectural details that needed extra care to get right.
We're really happy with how everything came together, and it's a great project to showcase the workmanship and attention to detail that goes into our painting.
Preparing the Wainscoting and Decorative Features
One of the biggest parts of this project was preparing the decorative wainscoting and architraves throughout the home.
With so many mouldings, joins and detailed edges, there was quite a bit more work involved than painting standard walls. Getting a great finish meant taking the time to properly prepare every surface before applying the final coats.
There were multiple rounds of filling and sanding, working from 120-grit through to 240-grit sandpaper to smooth out the surfaces and get them ready for painting.
We also used LED lighting to inspect the detailed areas, helping us pick out any small issues that would be visible once they were painted.
This preparation takes time, but it's an important part of getting a great result, especially on a home with this much decorative detail.

Spray-Finished Doors and Architraves
For the internal doors and architraves, we used a spray-applied finish to get a smooth result throughout the home.
The colour selected was Dulux Snow Mountains Half, a soft white that works well with the darker timber flooring, black door hardware and other interior features.
Spray painting gives the doors and architraves a great finish without showing any brush marks, while still bringing out the profiles and details of the mouldings.
It's a small detail that really makes a difference when you walk through and live in the property.

Exterior Painting and Timber Door Staining
We also completed painting work on the exterior of the property, which features a range of decorative architectural mouldings.
This included the columns, window surrounds, cornices and detailing around the front entrance.
Painting these complicated exterior surfaces can be a challenge. With so many edges, corners and detailed mouldings, getting the small things right is important because any imperfections can stand out every time you walk past.
We took the time to carefully finish these areas, making sure the details looked great from every angle.
We also stained the timber front doors, maintaining their natural timber appearance and finishing off the home's grand entrance.

The Finished Result
We're stoked with the finished result for this Wheelers Hill home.
You often hear that preparation is the hardest part of painting, and that was 100% true on this project. With the amount of detailed wainscoting, decorative mouldings and architraves throughout the property, a lot of the work happened before we even got to the final coats.
All that preparation paid off, and we're really happy with how the painting complements the home's architectural features, timber flooring and interior finishes.
Projects like this are a great opportunity for us to showcase the attention to detail and workmanship that goes into our painting, and what really sets us apart from other painters.
